the fast development of artificial intelligence (ai) platforms has significantly changed people’s daily lives, especially for some groups working in particular fields. , an interior designer and architect, is one of them.

the montenegrin found his passion for design at a young age. “i sketched imaginary buildings and spaces in my notebooks, captivated by the interplay of form and function,” he said. “in montenegro, i had a job with a good salary. but as the saying goes, ‘the world is a book, and those who do not travel read only a page,’ so i decided to head to china,” he said.

memic arrived in china in 2019, fascinated by the country’s deep-rooted culture. “the intricate artistry, ancient philosophies, and harmonious balance in chinese design have profoundly influenced my creative works,” he said.

he first stayed in beijing for a year. “i worked on a project for bytedance’s headquarters in shenzhen. i had to be on-site for a few weeks where i fell in love with the city. so, i moved here,” he recalled.

memic’s decision to settle in shenzhen was driven by the city’s reputation as a vibrant hub of innovation and creativity. “its rapid development and openness to new ideas drew me in, presenting the perfect canvas for my architectural and design ventures.”

always on the lookout for innovative ways to improve his work, he turned to ai. “the technology’s ability to generate innovative design concepts and streamline processes aligns seamlessly with my vision of pushing creative boundaries. it acts as a collaborative partner, ultimately enhancing the efficiency and depth of my work.”

his utilization of ai extended to projects, including one for a non-fungible token (nft) business in singapore.

when asked if he was ever afraid that ai would take designers’ jobs, he said that he would keep using ai as he views it as an integral part of creation. “i intend to explore and harness its capabilities to create groundbreaking designs. but, who knows what the future will bring.”

he thinks shenzhen’s title of “city of design” is well-deserved. “the vibrant design atmosphere here is palpable; it’s a melting pot of ideas, cultures and innovation, fostering an environment where creativity knows no bounds. nantou ancient town, art villages, futian cbd, qianhai, shenzhen bay sports center ... all of these are examples where you can see that design is playing a big role in shaping the city’s identity.”

memic has also been recognized for his expertise, having been invited as a guest at shenzhen design week. “it’s undoubtedly a great chance to meet new people from the industry and see new trends,” he said.

what impressed memic the most about shenzhen was its relentless spirit of innovation and the rapid pace of life. the city seamlessly blends tradition and modernity, showcasing the immense potential of human creativity and ambition.

memic said he currently has several ongoing projects in hong kong and shenzhen, mostly interior design for big companies.

looking ahead, memic aspires to further enrich shenzhen’s design landscape. “i plan to collaborate on ambitious projects that not only redefine architectural boundaries, but also contribute meaningfully to the city’s cultural tapestry. shenzhen’s boundless potential is my endless inspiration.”
