onofrei, a romanian volunteer at the nanshan international cultural exchange and service center (nsic), established his company in qianhai in 2018.

“i heard that qianhai is a good place to open a company because the registration process is very fast and almost free,” he said. “i went to the service hall, where i got a list of documents and submitted them the next day. on the third day, i got my company established. it usually takes three months in my country!”

since then, onofrei has paid closer attention to qianhai and he found that it is an area that encourages people, especially those from hong kong, macao and foreign countries to start businesses.

“recently, i learned that the qianhai [shenzhen-hong kong modern service industry cooperation zone] has been expanded, and shekou — where i live and work — has become part of qianhai. this is amazing and will be a huge opportunity for a lot of foreigners who want to develop their business,” the romanian said. “in addition, entrepreneurs can get a refund on their office rent in qianhai, which is great help for a startup. i encourage people to open a business in qianhai.”

onofrei also said he is excited about the new international schools, universities and hospitals to be built in qianhai in the future, according to the recently released qianhai plan.
